Mein lieber Ersatz=Urgrossenkel,

Dein
Urgrossvater=Ersatz

My dear Surrogate Great-Grandchild,

I cordially greet you on this more than dubious earth and wish you from my heart, that you will become happy here, undisturbed and undistraught. I’m writing you in German because you can’t under- stand English yet either. Please tell my surrogate granddaughter Anette that I am very happy that she produced this work number one, and that I, if I am still here (an absence that you, although you were just not here as well, don’t understand), will be very happy to greet the three of you here someday.

Please tell your father that he has beautifully stylized handwriting, but that the stylization reduces its readability, that I would very much like to receive the content of his letter again, typed! I’d also be very interested in his clippings; I’m not doing any better with my 86 years: I, too, am being pursued.

Be welcomed here on earth! If I knew what a "blessing" is, I’d close my letter: "you have my blessing!"

Cordially,
Your
Great-Grandfather-Surrogate

The clippings Anders refers to at the end are about a civil suit I brought against University of Michigan and Ann Arbor city policemen who beat me up during an anti-CIA recruiting demonstration in a campus building. (Page of Clippings and Photos from 1987 to 1991)
