Students read Nina Morecki's letter aloud in Prof. Marcuse's UCSB Hist 2c, "World History, 1700-present," course on May 29, 2003. Afterwards Nina Morecki answered questions. One student wrote the following thank-you note [light corrections to spelling]:
Hello Nina!
How are you? Well first thing first. I want to thank you for sharing your experience with us. Hearing your story makes the facts we learned from our textbooks real. You were one of those people we read about and you have seen life at its worst. I know it's hard to let go of families and I know how it feels to lose someone you love. All I think of now is that God needed them and needed you here to tell us what occurred. You are a very strong woman. it's sad to see so much hate still exist but I guess it won't ever go away. The best we can do is make it better or at least try to, right? I loved your presentation and the fact that it's written as a letter makes it seem like you're connecting with each of us. The only thing I suggest is if possible it would be nice to hear from you. Tell us more stories (in future presentations). I like to hear the person talk about it but I understand it's hard. It was a good presentation. Best wishes to you always and know that you've made a difference. Hearing your story I'm sure made students realize how the world (life) can be but it's up to us on how we try to make a difference. This is a type of history that should never be forgotten.
